Officials say police and fire purchases are mostly covered by equipment reserves

"A $126,000 up in the revenues, we have transfer in from the equipment reserve funds, of a $100,000 offset the bulk of that," staff said when reviewing police equipment purchases; commissioners discussed trading one vehicle or delaying a purchase to reduce the operating impact.
Staff also said the fire department has SCBA purchases totaling $161,500 and the department proposes to cover that with an equipment-reserve transfer so the net operating cost is show‑neutral. Staff said they will run an internal review to reconcile reserve balances and ensure the funds are available before executing purchases.
Commissioners agreed to consider repurposing retiring vehicles for engineering use where practical and to ask staff for refined reserve-account reconciliations before final approval.
