The county authorized the county manager to sign a contract with HH Architecture for design, bidding and construction administration of a new welcome center at the agricultural center. Staff presented a proposed ~5,000-square-foot building layout with shared conference and lobby spaces intended to serve the agricultural center and the Tourism Development Authority (TDA).
"They found that the construction of that building would be about 2,600,000," staff said when presenting the cost estimate; design fees were quoted at $279,300 and owner costs at roughly $130,000, keeping the total project budget under $3 million. Staff noted TDA pays rent now and has agreed to participate in design costs; the board approved the contract by voice vote.
The plan includes five offices for ag-center staff, six for the TDA, shared meeting rooms, and space intended to keep construction costs modest while allowing future expansion. Staff told commissioners there is sufficient money in the ag-center fund balance to proceed while leaving contingency for outstanding work on the larger campus.
