Deputy town manager told council staff is continuing to test a new STR complaint and management system and plans to launch it with the STR renewal cycle on Oct. 1. The system can log submitted complaints and allow staff to pull historical reports by address and call type, the deputy town manager said.
Councilmembers and the police chief debated whether nonemergency police calls (noise, speed, parking) could or should be cross‑referenced with STR‑hotline data when evaluating neighborhood impacts. The police chief explained the records management system (RMS) and the STR hotline are not integrated, and data matching is imperfect: some calls do not identify a specific unit or whether the complaint was STR‑related. Councilmembers asked staff to devise a process for generating usable, address‑level datasets from available records and to report back on practical steps to ensure that nonemergency reports can inform licensing and enforcement decisions where appropriate.
One councilmember described a neighborhood with recurring issues and asked for a scalable, town‑wide approach rather than ad hoc cases. Staff and the chief recommended using address searches and case‑by‑case follow up, exporting tabular reports where possible, and clarified that investigators compile additional context beyond the initial hotline report. Council directed staff to work on internal alignment for data sharing and provide a report or work session to demonstrate how the combined data can inform STR policy and renewals.
