John Young, president of the Bellflower Teachers Association, described bargaining as ongoing with emphasis on fair compensation, working conditions and health benefits, and highlighted BTA efforts around AI planning, graduation requirement discussions, workplace safety and member support programs. Young also outlined new member-facing initiatives including a BTA grant program and expanded professional learning opportunities.
CSEA vice president Joan Chaney described the classified-employee appreciation luncheon, scholarships funded by chapter proceeds and said CSEA had reached a tentative agreement covering bus driver language and staff rights; she noted salary proposals remain under negotiation. Both union leaders expressed a desire to continue collaborative problem-solving with district administrators during bargaining.
