McCullom Lake trustees say road work delayed by unmarked utilities; $2M IDOT grant application pending

President Terry Counley told the Village of McCullom Lake board that work on the Orchard Drive resurfacing project is behind schedule after utility locates were missed, pausing the job for several days. He said curb, gutter and drainage work is complete and that grinding is scheduled this Friday with pavement work slated for Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025.
"They were digging but the gas lines couldn’t be located," Counley said, explaining the unexpected delay. Deputy Clerk Prehn confirmed the gas lines were not marked, which added days to the contractor’s timeline. Counley said the original completion date had been Sept. 19, 2025 but the contractor now expects paving to be next Tuesday.
Counley also briefed trustees on a concurrent funding opportunity: the village applied for an IDOT grant seeking $2,000,000 as part of a broader $4,000,000 funding round. "If we get that we will put it out for bids in the Spring," he said, urging residents to "keep your fingers crossed." If awarded, the grant would support broader resurfacing across village streets; measurements for all streets have been taken.
The update clarified sequencing for remaining work (grinding then paving) and advised residents that landscaping and driveway backfill were scheduled so homeowners can regain access. No formal action was taken; the board later pre-approved road project bills in a separate motion.
