City Clerk Casey Carl presented items 5 and 6 proposing to reestablish a third assistant city clerk. Carl explained that the clerk's office is organized into three divisions—elections and voter services, records and information management, and legislative support—each of which would be led by an assistant city clerk, restoring a structure the clerk had maintained prior to changes in the charter. Carl said two positions within legislative support (legislative editor and manager of legislative support) would be eliminated to recreate the assistant city clerk, director of legislative support role previously held by Jackie Hansen, who is in phased retirement with a last day at the end of the year.
"5 is authorization to create another assistant city clerk, an appointed position within the office of city clerk, which would restore having 3 assistant city clerks as we've had in the past," Carl said while presenting the organizational chart and rationale. After questions and discussion, the committee moved approval of item 5; the motion passed.
