Planning commission continues SDP24-0023 to Aug. 24 after geotechnical review requested

The Dana Point Planning Commission continued agenda Item SDP24-0023 to a date certain (Aug. 24, 2026) after staff reported outstanding geotechnical questions.
A staff member explained that geotechnical issues emerged close to the time notices were sent and that in-house geotechnical staff had not completed the requested analyses, asking the commission to continue the item to the Aug. 24 meeting. Quoting staff: “There were some geotechnical issues that had come up close to the time we were sending out the notice and couldn't quite get to a resolution on those regarding stability of the laws. … asking the commission to continue this to the their 08/24/2026 meeting.”
The chair opened the public hearing; no members of the public spoke. Commissioner Nelson moved to continue SDP24-0023 (and associated AMS 24-0009) to the specified date certain; the motion was seconded, commissioners voted in favor, and the item was continued.
The continuation preserves the commission’s ability to consider geotechnical findings before making a decision on the site development permit.
