Commission advances SPLOST bank account and LMIG road change; work session highlights roundabout and other projects

At its Feb. 4 meeting the commission approved establishing a bank account for the county’s 2025 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) program and unanimously approved an LMIG change to shift work from Riverbend Road to Friendship Road. Commissioner Jason Frost moved both actions; motions were seconded and recorded as unanimous votes in the minutes.
At the Feb. 24 work session, County Manager Thomas Weaver said the roundabout project is in progress and advised drivers to avoid the intersection where possible; while contracts list a 60-day completion period, Weaver said he considers a one-year timeline more realistic. Weaver also reported LMIG paperwork has been submitted to the county engineer to prepare bid packets for upcoming resurfacing projects. Public Works updates included storm cleanup, a repaired pipe on Hitchitee Creek Road and a replaced radio shed awaiting communication hookups.
Commissioners asked staff to keep road candidates on the agenda for LMIG funding consideration — Liberty Hill Road, Riverbend Road and Friendship Road were discussed — and discussed potential cooperation with Ft. Moore on paving several segments.
