The commission tabled action on putting Friendship Road out to bid, directing staff to return with reviewed bid specifications at a future work session. Commissioner Jason Frost moved to table the item and Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded; the motion passed unanimously March 4.
At the March 25 work session County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners the county had received a local road assistance grant that “piggybacks off the LMIG grant, SO we will be able to help with more roads.” He said portions of McGlaun and Smith Road—laid with No. 7 stone in 2017—have held until this year but will need renewed work, and that Liberty Hill Road and Wells Street required riprap repairs after areas began failing. Weaver also reported an EPD inspection of the landfill required headwall excavation and repair that needed an excavator rental and follow‑up inspection filings.
Work‑session discussion identified Riverbend Road as a candidate for regional funding or a TSPLOST project and noted the county’s newly started 2025 SPLOST account is beginning to receive revenues that could support road projects. Staff advised commissioners that bid technical specifications for Friendship Road had arrived and would be reviewed before any formal award or vote.
