Superior Court Clerk Tami Wade told the commission at an April 14 budget hearing that her office has historically operated with three staffers and that current staffing leaves her unable to maintain required office hours on court days.
“She just needs the additional staff for court days,” Wade said, adding she would not need a full‑time position and estimated about $15,000 for part‑time coverage. Wade also said she needs $10,000 for software required by her office; manager Thomas Weaver said the software request was not proposed to be cut.
Chairman Charles Coffey and other commissioners said they sympathize but that the broader budget constraints limit immediate action. Coffey said the commission must balance all offices’ requests: “If the money isn't there the county cannot fund it.” Wade told the board she could not wait a year for relief and said staffing shortages could force operational compromises during jury or court days.
The hearing was advisory (no quorum for votes on Apr. 14); the manager and clerk will include the request in revised budget documents for commission consideration.
