Commission approves GDOT right‑of‑way mowing and maintenance agreement for SR‑1/Wells Street roundabout project

Chattahoochee County commissioners voted unanimously March 4 to approve a Right‑of‑Way Mowing & Maintenance Agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation for PI #0015687, the roundabout project at State Route 1/State Route 520 and County Road 109 (Wells Street).

The agreement, included in the GDOT packet presented to the commission, details local maintenance obligations for landscaping, sidewalk repairs, mowing and pesticide/herbicide use within the GDOT right‑of‑way. The document states that the county “shall bear all costs and liability associated with the MAINTENANCE WORK” and must follow the Federal Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and other Department standards when work could affect traffic, according to the letter and agreement from GDOT staff.

Kimberly W. Nesbitt of GDOT described the next steps in a letter accompanying the agreement: “Enclosed is a Right‑of‑Way Mowing & Maintenance Agreement detailing maintenance commitments for the proposed landscaping and sidewalk on the above reference project.” The county will execute the agreement in GDOT’s Contract Authorization Tracking System and return the signed copy for GDOT signatures.

Commissioner Damon Hoyte moved to approve the agreement; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded and the vote was recorded as unanimous. County staff and the attorney will coordinate logistics for any future work that could require temporary traffic control or notifications to GDOT, as the agreement requires prior coordination for activities that may interfere with traffic or pedestrian flow.
