Council supports pursuing private-lot rate disclosure and signage measures

Council members pressed staff on private off-street lots after several constituent complaints about confusing pricing and non-city lots operating near downtown. Council asked whether the city could require private lot operators to post rates at the entrance and to clearly indicate that a lot is privately owned, not city-operated.
Park Roanoke staff said their recommendation includes crafting an ordinance or legislation that would require any entity charging for parking to display rates at lot entrances. "Ultimately, what we are suggesting is maybe an ordinance or legislation that would require any entity that charges for parking that they display the rates and the fees on the entrance to that location," the presenter said. The city also reported it had negotiated with a private app to add a banner that indicates when a lot is not city-owned.
