Sheridan County accepts deannexation impact report; Dayton council will decide deannexation

The county planner presented a statutory impact report prepared after a petition by Dale Reeder seeking deannexation of about 6.99 acres in the Town of Dayton. The planner emphasized the report's scope: parcel history, municipal services, anticipated county service impacts and long-range planning implications. He told the board the report "does not provide recommendation as to whether the annexation petition should occur or not; simply an analysis" and that the Dayton Town Council would make any deannexation decision.
Several local speakers addressed the county about potential consequences. Norm Anderson (speaker 12) and Clifford Reed, mayor of Dayton (speaker 13), raised concerns about future boundary effects and the prospect that other lot owners might seek deannexation. The board voted to approve the county's impact report and noted that approval of the report does not equate to county approval of deannexation; the town council retains the decision authority.
