ESP tells Osseo board recess staff are "overwhelmed and understaffed"; asks for funding

Tina Collins, an education support professional (ESP) who has worked in the district since 2008, used the Nov. 19 public-comment period to describe frontline supervision and staffing shortfalls and to ask the board for more funding to hire and keep ESP staff.
Collins said she spends recess supervising large outdoor play areas with "120 to 150 children" and regularly handles health and emotional incidents, restroom returns, and missing items while maintaining playground safety. "We are overwhelmed and understaffed," she said, urging the board to allocate resources to hire and retain qualified ESP personnel so staff can keep students safe and supported.
Board members thanked Collins for speaking and acknowledged the work of ESPs across the district. The public comment came between the auditor presentation and the superintendent's report and was noted by the board without formal immediate action.
