Council to hold additional retreat-style sessions as staff prepares budget-priority lists

Councilors said they want more time to work through budget priorities after a lengthy facilitated session earlier in October. City manager (speaker 7) said staff will assemble short lists for the council’s three priority categories — services, infrastructure and community amenities — with dollar estimates, likely funding sources and timelines for bringing those options back for a facilitated discussion.
“You spent, almost 3 and a 3.5 hours working on figuring out what projects, programs, and services you would like to prioritize,” the city manager said, describing staff’s next step to prepare options and asking whether council prefers retreat-style meetings or using regular work sessions for follow-up. Several councilors said a separate retreat or multiple dedicated sessions would be more productive than squeezing the work into a standard one-hour meeting.
Council also discussed scheduling an executive session to complete the city-manager evaluation; staff will circulate a doodle poll and target completing council input by the end of next week so an executive session can be scheduled soon. Staff indicated the next work session would include planning items and a Marius Young lease agreement."
