Council proclaims Oct. 31 as Oregon City–Westland Rivalry Day

“Now, therefore, we, the city council of West Linn, hereby recognize and commend all community members who have participated in this annual gridiron classic,” Mayor (speaker 6) read as he presented the proclamation, which notes that the rivalry dates to 1921 (except for a pandemic interruption) and calls on residents to observe the day in a spirit of friendly competition.
The proclamation was issued in coordination with Oregon City and will be presented to teams at the senior football breakfast; the council added a light-hearted advisory suggesting residents wear appropriate colors and refrain from crossing the river unless business requires it until 7 p.m. in the spirit of the event. The proclamation was described in the meeting as jocular and celebratory rather than an enforceable restriction.
