County manager: sewer grant denied, roundabout construction still on schedule, payroll outsourcing nearing launch

County Manager Thomas Weaver reported a set of operational and capital updates during the Aug. 26 work session.
Weaver said the county’s sewer grant application was not awarded; staff will review outcomes after Sept. 30 to identify improvements for future applications. He said payroll outsourcing is in progress and should be live soon. On capital projects, Weaver said the roundabout project remains on schedule and should reach construction around the beginning of next year. He questioned the savings from an enterprise vehicle lease program and suggested purchasing vehicles when they come off lease rather than renewing.
Weaver also praised staff who freed a stuck motor grader, noted a favorable sales‑ratio study result (37.3), and described a new maintenance hire (Shawn Ellison). Several items discussed at the work session — including a proposed recycling‑center cardboard compactor lease, appointment of Rob Marion to the regional development council and potential use of Old City Hall by the Board of Education for student registration — were slated for the Sept. 3 regular meeting agenda.
