The Elko County Local Emergency Planning Committee on Feb. 26 received a detailed update on emergency preparedness grants and related purchases. Daniel Hassett, deputy chief for EMS and committee secretary, said the committee was awarded a State Emergency Response Commission grant of $32,000 to purchase 12 SCBA cylinders, five portable radios and three mobile Harris radios, with partial payments made and a reimbursement of $14,988 received on Feb. 18.
Hassett also reported the committee received a United We Stand award of $31,752 to buy Starlink communications equipment, 16 SCBA bottles and 18 SCBA masks. “We received 16 SCBA bottles and paid $20,000; received 18 SCBA masks and paid $6,750,” Hassett said, adding that the committee had received $26,750 in reimbursements and was ordering Starlink equipment that week. He noted an order confirmation for eight Harris radios totaling $19,674.74 had been placed but the radios had not yet been received.
The committee discussed coordinating applications for upcoming SERC grant rounds (OPTI and United We Stand) and encouraged agencies with needs to coordinate with the chair or Hassett to pursue awards. No formal action was required at the meeting; the report was provided for possible action and informational purposes.
