The borough police provided a detailed monthly activity report that included traffic enforcement, arrests, and a detective bureau investigation into a large fraud case.
The report listed 1,327 calls for service year-to-date, 211 motor vehicle stops and multiple traffic-enforcement details. On an early-morning incident in the west side neighborhoods (Birchwood, Cedar, Fernwood), officers found suspects had entered unlocked vehicles and taken photographs of residents’ property; the department urged vigilance.
Police said detectives located and charged multiple suspects in a telephone real-estate fraud that victimized a resident for about $200,000; officers indicated $154,000 is expected to be returned to the victim by convicted defendants. The detective bureau continues to pursue charges where restitution has not been made.
The department also reported staffing developments: "2 new hires are expected to be sworn in, hopefully, on 06/16," the police representative said, pending completion of background checks. Council members thanked the department and noted continuing outreach programs (for example, fatal-vision simulations at the high school and an upcoming Touch-a-Truck event on May 31).
