Residents press council on maintenance, ADA access and insurance for Founders Park field

Jamie Engle said removing a requirement for separate village property coverage could ‘‘save taxpayers more than $60,000 annually or over $1,200,000 during the initial 20 year term,’’ and said she and others had requested supporting breakdowns for two weeks with no response. Engle also referenced a reported maintenance reduction from about $48,000 (seven months) to roughly $6,000 per year if turf is used.
Other speakers, including Cheryl Culberson and Joe Wishmire, urged that bleachers be made ADA-compliant and noted safety problems that have persisted under the school board’s prior stewardship. ‘‘Whose insurance is gonna take care of that? Is that gonna fall upon the village to maintain and to pay for such accidents?’’ Wishmire asked during public comment.
Residents also questioned automatic renewal language in the license (20-year initial term with two automatic 10-year renewals), urging either explicit village protections or a requirement that tenants request extensions rather than automatic renewals. The council approved the field-focused agreement but directed staff to provide further maintenance and insurance breakdowns for upcoming budget discussions.
