Commissioners approve $10,000 senior-services technology grant

The Montezuma County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a grant application to the Lord/Loar Foundation to provide technology for the county senior services center. A county staff member told commissioners the grant would be used for a large rolling television, DVD capability and hearing-aid support to help hard-of-hearing residents and to allow presenters to show materials to groups of seniors.
"The grant would be up to $10,000," the staff member said. Commissioners moved and seconded the application and then voted in favor. The county's Department of Social Services will submit the application; no local cash match is required.
The staff member said they will receive a lump-sum award if approved and the county will then purchase the equipment. Commissioners did not attach additional conditions to the application and indicated they would sign the submission form after the meeting. The item was presented as a capital or equipment request rather than an ongoing program expense.
