County offers EMT training to volunteers; Chief says department may pay college EMT coursework

A commissioner asked how long the county'wide EMT training runs. The Chief said the current EMT course is "over 200 hours," started in January and will run to about May. He added the county plans to offer a lower-level 40-hour first-responder course more often to expand basic response skills for community members.
On recruitment, the Chief said training is available to any volunteer and that the department has gone "as far as we will pay for them to attend 1 of the college classes that's an EMT course" to help volunteers complete certification and become engaged responders.
