Southgate council approves naming two alleys, including 'Miller Alley', after public request

At its Nov. 6 meeting the Southgate City Council approved naming two alleys 'Miller Alley' and 'Muench Alley' after a public petition by a long-time local business owner; the vote was unanimous, 5–0.
Mayor Hamberg called the Southgate City Council to order on Nov. 6. During public comment, Drue Miller, who said she has operated Miller Accounting & Tax Service in Southgate for more than 50 years, asked the council to name the alley beside her business at 16 E. Walnut St. "She requested the alley be named "Miller Alley".
Council moved to name two alleys—one to honor Miller’s family business and another to be named "Muench Alley"—and approved the motion. The motion (Wegener/Lycans) passed on a recorded vote of Aye 5, Nay 0. The naming will be handled according to city procedures for public place names.
The item arose during the public comment portion of the agenda and followed presentation of Green Thumb Awards by Council Member Okura. No additional funds or capital work were reported in connection with the naming; the council did not record any conditions or follow-up tasks related to signage at the time of the vote.
