Council member presenting the ordinance explained that 12-83-25 amends the borough code to prohibit department officers from serving as line officers in another volunteer department while allowing them to serve as line officers in Old Tappan when they hold a career position with a paid department. "The way it reads is department officers shall not be line officers in another volunteer department," the presenter said, describing the limited change in the ordinance.
After opening the public hearing and receiving no substantive public comment, the council adopted the ordinance on second and final reading and directed the borough clerk to publish the notice of adoption as required by law.
