Girl Scout pitches permanent battery-recycling bin for Old Tappan

Sanvi, a Girl Scout working on her Silver Award, urged the council to establish a permanent battery-recycling collection point in Old Tappan to prevent pollution and reduce fire risks. “I am proposing a battery recycling program for Old Tappan,” she said, offering to coordinate drop-offs at approved sites and to create educational materials and volunteer support to sustain the effort.
The borough’s recycling coordinator indicated the recycling center is a viable location and DPW would assist with logistics, while the library liaison offered to present a request to the library board if the town wants an additional drop-off there. Council consensus was supportive and the mayor asked the DPW and the recycling coordinator, Tom Young, to follow up on logistics.
