Council approved on third reading an ordinance establishing a uniform waste-tire policy that allows Chesterfield County to accept tires from retailers and set a tipping fee schedule.
Michelle Stanley summarized the ordinance: "This ordinance is established, that allows Chesterfield County to accept tires from the retailers and then who shall be required to pay a tipping fee up to $400 per ton. The county is gonna if the, retailer has their necessary paperwork, they won't charge them anything. But if they don't have the necessary paperwork that they have to report to Doctor, they'll be charged $200."
The public hearing on the ordinance drew no outside speakers; council discussed that the fee schedule responds to an abundance of tires that created unexpected expense for the county. The ordinance passed by voice vote on third reading.
Council directed staff to publish the ordinance and the compliance paperwork requirements; detailed fee administration and reporting were not discussed beyond the basic schedule recorded at the hearing.
