Amy Lukasik, Flagler County’s tourism development director, told the board the 10-year tourism master plan is nearing completion and should provide guidance on future TDC funding priorities. Lukasik said the plan, expected to be presented to the TDC in August, could help the county grow TDC revenues and continue to fund beach-management projects without relying on new hotel construction.
Commissioners discussed re-requesting the TDC’s second penny for another year. Financial staff said keeping the beach program at roughly $8 million would require the additional revenue if other priorities were not cut. Commissioners noted the trade-offs: dedicating TDC funds to the beach reduces funds available for other tourism capital projects in the same year and could require reprioritization in subsequent years.
