Flagler County commissioners indicated Aug. 3 they will use the tentative millage rate of 7.89 mills as the working assumption for the FY 2026–27 budget, even as they considered adjustments from constitutional officers. One commissioner summarized the board’s position: "So 7.89 it is," reflecting a consensus that small reductions in officers’ requests would not materially change the millage.
Clerk and Comptroller Tom Bexley told the board his office revised its initial $500,000 request down to a $300,000 increase that would cover cost-of-living, health insurance and two positions brought on half-year ("a $300,000, budget request in excess of what we had last year"). Sheriff Rick Staley said his office negotiated health-insurance renewals down from a projected 44% to roughly 22% and reported that the county saved about $7,095,218 over three years under a contract with Prime Correctional; he also described several grants that reduce local costs.
