Bobby Jones, who identified himself as the founder and executive director of Grow and Wine Connect in Compton, used the public-comment period to present a model for after-school wellness programming that includes yoga, breath work, goal-setting and incentives for students.
Jones described prior partnerships with Compton Unified and after-school work across local schools, offered the district brochures and a children's yoga book he has used as curriculum, and asked staff to consider incorporating his programming into district after-school opportunities. "I run after school programming with Compton Unified School District... I teach them wellness, breath work, yoga, goal setting, having morning night routines," Jones said.
District staff accepted materials for review; President Garza directed staff to connect with the speaker for follow-up.
