Board approves new wastewater assistant superintendent position

The Board of Public Works approved creation of an assistant superintendent position in the wastewater department during the July 30 meeting.
A staff speaker explained the new unaffiliated grade-20 role is intended to resolve overlaps between foreman positions and the existing operations supervisor by reassigning duties and clarifying responsibilities. The existing operations supervisor is a UAW position; the new post will be unaffiliated, staff said.
Commissioners asked whether the change would affect the department’s budget. Staff said the salary will be placed on a different pay grid, which could mean a slightly higher salary, but that costs can be covered under wastewater’s existing operating budget and account classifications; funding was described as minimal and manageable. The board voted in favor of the motion and the item passed by voice vote.
