Nashua resident urges board to fix persistent Salmon Brook sewer backups

Bill Stashlock told the Board of Public Works he has experienced recurring sewer backups in his neighborhood that affected homes as recently as July 5 and said the problem has cost neighbors thousands of dollars in repairs.
“This is Bill Stashlock. I live on 11 New Source Road in Nashua, New Hampshire,” Stashlock said, recounting a major backup that he said impacted residents almost a mile away. He asked the board to address the issue and said he believes an overflow connection at Salmon Brook contributed to the problem.
Stashlock requested that the city examine modern monitoring techniques and other methods to reduce routine cleaning and respond to intermittent system failures. He also asked for capital improvements to replace the problematic overflow connection and added the Cardozo family experienced a recent basement overflow.
Board members and staff responded that the city engineer and superintendent have been in contact with Stashlock and that they will coordinate a meeting to discuss solutions. Staff said they will follow up with superintendent Boucher and the city engineer to determine next steps and evaluate other residents with similar issues.
