During the meeting’s council reports, members gave community updates including a push to repair long-out streetlights, new school openings and forthcoming public meetings.
Council member Catherine Hardrick said she is working with Walton EMC to repair about 42 streetlights and urged residents to report outages; she also noted South Gwinnett High School’s community input meeting and reminded residents of a July 28 registration/deadline item. Mayor Pro Tem Norman Carter announced a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 12 focused solely on suggested safety improvements at the Highway 78 and Crestview Drive intersection.
Council members also recounted recent ribbon cuttings and community events: a new private school operating near Grace Church, a music school opening in the Michaels shopping center, and a new local franchisee preparing to open a Scooter’s Coffee. Carter also praised the Snellville Police Department for removing several altered firearms from the street and encouraged residents to report streetlight outages directly to Walton EMC if lights go out.
Council emphasized the city’s community programming and urged residents to use official channels for service requests and event information. The mayor and council closed the meeting after a unanimous motion to adjourn.
