Middlebury Public Library launches "Books That Shaped America" series and 1793-to-present display

The Middlebury Public Library began a year-long series titled "Books That Shaped America," introducing Webster's Dictionary (1828) in January and naming The Old Farmer's Almanac (1793) as February's featured title. Director Jo-Ann LoRusso told trustees the program will present a new book on the first Friday of every month through 2026.
The library also installed a historical display in the main entrance showcasing artifacts from 1793 onward, including an original library catalog with circulation records, a late-fee calculator and portraits of past librarians such as Mary Hine (first town librarian, 1896—1904) and Delia Bronson (Head Librarian, 1929—1972). LoRusso noted the library has had only 10 head librarians/directors in its 233-year history.
