Van Alstyne crew handles early starts, heavy equipment and cleanup for concert series

Van Alstyne’s parks crew described the logistics behind the city’s concert series, including early-morning setup, staging heavy sound equipment and managing large crowds.
“No day is the same really, except for mowing,” said Jeff Slate, the parks supervisor, before describing the event routine: staff set up barricades, meet the sound crew when they arrive midday and help move drum kits, speakers and amplifiers into place. He said Fridays are often devoted to concert setup ahead of weekend events.
Candy highlighted that crews arrive before most residents are awake—“We’re out there 7AM”—and remain on site during the event to manage trash, assist patrons and perform teardown. Jeff said some concerts draw “3 or 4,000 people,” which increases cleanup and staffing demands.
Hosts noted upcoming performances, including a show Candy named for the Bellamy Brothers, and reiterated that the parks team handles sponsor tent setup and other sponsor needs in addition to the technical load-in and load-out.
