Commission approves adding BJ Wagner to RPM Speedway lease to secure insurance

Chris Sutton and BJ Wagner appeared before the commission to request that BJ Wagner and his 51 W Promotions be added to the RPM Speedway lease so the track can secure insurance coverage for the remainder of the 2026 season.
"So we're here this morning to, to ask for approval, gain approval to, add BJ Wagner with 51 w promotions onto the contract at RPM Speedway for the 20 26 year," Chris Sutton said. He and Wagner described prior experience promoting other area tracks and said the change was needed to allow events planned at the county fair and the fall nationals to proceed with insurance in place.
County Counselor Bill Jeter told commissioners that the change is primarily administrative: it "doesn't really change anything. It just adds another entity to the lease agreement for purposes of being insurable, getting insurance," and would carry the contract to the end of the year under the current arrangement. A commissioner moved to approve the updated RPM lease agreement for the 2026 race season, a colleague seconded, and the commission approved the motion by voice vote.
The transcript notes the approval took effect immediately for the remainder of the year and that the promoters expect to run the fair-date event on July 11; commissioners said staff will regroup later in the year to consider ongoing arrangements.
