Council hears first reading of golf-cart ordinance, delays further action to October

Assistant City Attorney Shultz read the first reading of Ordinance 24-12 on Sept. 18, proposing to repeal Section 71.03 and create a new chapter authorizing operation of golf carts on specified city streets with a city permit, inspection and safety equipment requirements.
Council members asked about penalties, fines and how enforcement would be handled. After discussion, council agreed to delay further action and revisit the ordinance at the October meeting rather than advancing it at the Sept. 18 session.
No vote was recorded on the ordinance during the Sept. 18 meeting. Councilmembers asked staff to provide additional details about enforcement, hours of operation and age or licensing verification before the next reading.
