Minico students collect more than 17,000 cans; nutrition director previews meal changes

Student representatives reported that Minico students and clubs collected more than 17,000 cans during the annual food drive; donations will go to the Paul and Rupert food banks. Kate Rosales was introduced as the incoming student representative.
School Nutrition Director Katie Rogers reviewed October participation and reimbursement numbers: the Nutrition office fed 16,572 breakfasts and 43,331 lunches over 19 days in October and reported an average daily participation increase for lunch. Rogers also described a verification process that moved 33 students from free/reduced eligibility to denied due to households not responding to documentation requests, and noted district work responding to upcoming USDA final-rule changes and product reformulations discussed at the ISNA food show.
