Minidoka County trustees approve package of district policies, hold emergency-closure policy for second reading

The Minidoka County Joint School District Board of Trustees approved a package of board policies and several routine items at its Nov. 18 regular meeting in Rupert.

Vice Chair Mary Andersen moved to approve policies 1 through 13 as presented; Trustee Kent seconded the motion and it "carried," the minutes state. The policies approved on the consent/business portion of the agenda included Policy 240.00 (Request for Review and Reconsideration of Learning Materials), Policy 250.20 (Library Materials), Policy 274.00 (Transfer of Student Credits from Non-Accredited Institutions), Policy 276.00 (Advanced Opportunities), Policy 305.00 (Military Waiver), and Policy 372.50 (Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Response), among others.

The board held Policy 854.00 (Emergency Closure) for a second reading rather than approving it at the meeting. The emergency-closure policy in the packet directs the superintendent or designee to authorize school closures and requires reporting to the Idaho Department of Education; it also outlines notification practices (the district's REMIND system and website) and compensation/expectations for staff during closures.

Other formal actions recorded included approval of Student Achievement Goals (motion by Trustee Claridge, seconded by Vice Chair Andersen), and a motion to approve an overnight girls' soccer request conditional on additional chaperones and signed parent permission slips. Several personnel items were recorded on the meeting packet and approved as part of the consent agenda or later motions (see actions at a glance). The meeting adjourned at 8:38 p.m.
