Auburndale approves three-year athletics agreement with Florida Polytechnic University for city fields

The Auburndale City Commission voted unanimously to approve an athletics facilities agreement with Florida Polytechnic University that permits the university to use the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex, the Auburndale Softball Complex and the Auburndale Community Center for scheduled practices and home games.
Parks and Recreation Director Cody McGhee told the commission the agreement covers scheduled practices and games for an initial three-year term with two option years, and that the annual fee for scheduled usage is $50,000. Katie Daniels, counsel for Florida Polytechnic University, introduced university staff and said they are "very excited for this partnership." There was no public comment.
Commissioner Sean Levy moved to approve the agreement and Commissioner Crystal Tijerina seconded; the motion carried with all ayes. Commissioners discussed competitiveness of the rate and facility capabilities; Parks and Recreation staff described fee types for regular scheduled use and additional events or tournaments and noted discounted rates could apply for future tournaments.
