Board approves minor Lower St. Croix Watershed Partnership amendments and one-year grant extension

County staff presented a set of mostly minor amendments recommended by the Lower St. Croix Watershed Partnership policy committee designed to expand priority areas for forest management and woodland stewardship plans to include parcels that drain to regionally significant rivers, streams or lakes. The package also adds forest-management plans to the partnership's eligible activities in the work plan, reallocates existing budget lines without changing the total budget and requests a one-year extension of the grant agreement to allow continued work.
Commissioners discussed the administrative friction caused by the partnership's structure (requiring multiple boards to approve changes) and acknowledged the changes were intended to speed implementation of stewardship work on additional parcels. Staff emphasized no county local dollars are being used for these adjustments; funding remains from the watershed partnership. The board moved and approved the recommended amendments and the extension by voice vote.
