Dan said the city already has about $18,000 toward a new mower from prior salvage sales and trade-ins and argued selling the brush truck would avoid shifting budget lines.
"We sold some salvage mowers last year... So we have close to $18,000 in funds towards the mower," Dan said. Council discussed the sentimental value of the last city fire truck and agreed to offer it to residents via a closed bid process before sending it to state auction; staff also noted significant engineering work would be required to repurpose the vehicle's pump into another chassis.
A motion to declare the brush truck surplus and set disposition by auction/disposal passed on a voice vote with no recorded opposition. The council asked staff to follow the surplus policy and to determine the method of disposition and starting bid or reserve price as allowed by policy.
