Council considers mobile recreation program and community garden expansion

The consultant proposed a mobile recreation program—a retrofitted vehicle or partnership with HOAs and schools—to bring programming to parts of Kalispell with limited park access, particularly in the North quadrant. "Lewiston, Idaho...retrofitted bus" was offered as an example of a small community using mobile recreation successfully, Terrell said, and councilors suggested piloting events before committing to vehicle acquisition.
Council discussion also covered the heavily used community garden (26 plots) and the possibility of expanding existing plots or creating additional community garden sites in other wards. A councilor suggested exploring a greenhouse and possible TIF or private funding, and staff said volunteers and partners (including 4-H and master gardeners) have supported the gardens’ success.
