The Wythe County Board of Supervisors opened July 28 by adopting four resolutions honoring area high-school track athletes and relay teams for 2026 state championships.
Resolutions 2026-16 through 2026-19 commended Skyler McBride (George Wythe High School, Boys Long Jump — personal-record 22 feet, 2.5 inches), Emma Faulkner (George Wythe — multiple indoor and outdoor titles including a 3200-meter run in 11:33.02), Trey Ward (Rural Retreat — 55-meter dash meet record 6.60 seconds and 300-meter indoor title) and the Rural Retreat Boys 4x100 relay (43.09 seconds). Each resolution was moved and passed unanimously.
Later the board addressed appointments to the Mount Rogers Planning District Commission. A motion to appoint Brian Vaught received a roll-call vote with Sarah P. Crockett recorded as the 'nay' on the Vaught vote; the board then moved to appoint Andy Kegley and noted subsequent procedural votes. The appointments were recorded in the minutes.
