District plans curriculum pilots, new platform and professional-development advisory committee

Curriculum Director Melissa Hanners briefed the board on multiple instructional and professional-development initiatives at the June 22 meeting. Hanners said the district would review the ThinkCERCA 6–8 ELA program for one additional year, pilot state-approved dyslexia screening tools for several K–3 teachers in the fall semester, and finalize curriculum purchases and instructional resources for the coming year.
Hanners also reported that the district is launching a Portrait of a Graduate rollout and district branding this fall, continuing partnership with RESA consultants for professional development planning, and transitioning to the online learning and credit-recovery platform Subject.com. The board noted formation of a district Professional Development Advisory Committee composed of teachers, administrators, support staff and parents to align PD to district goals and to structure the three full professional development days.
