North Mankato adopts ordinance clarifying RV parking; bans RVs over 22 feet from parking more than 24 consecutive hours

The North Mankato City Council on July 20 adopted Ordinance No. 198 to amend Chapter 71.05 of the City Code, clarifying rules for on-street recreational vehicle parking and removing ambiguous provisions previously tied to a 22-foot exemption.

City Planner Lassonde told the council the Traffic and Safety Committee recommended removing §71.05(K) and revising §71.05(L)(2)(a) to improve clarity and enforceability. "To improve clarity and enforceability, the Committee recommends removing 71.05 (K) and revising 71.05 (L)(2)(a) to clearly state that recreational vehicles longer than 22 feet may not be parked on any street for more than 24 consecutive hours," City Planner Lassonde said.

The ordinance was adopted following a motion by Council Member Oachs and a second by Council Member Steiner. The recorded vote was Steiner, Oachs, Peterson, Whitlock, and Carlson aye; no nays. The change replaces the prior ambiguous 22-foot language with an explicit limit on consecutive on-street parking time for larger recreational vehicles.

Council members and staff said the amendment is intended to reduce public confusion and make enforcement consistent. The ordinance takes effect as prescribed by city procedures; council action on implementation or enforcement follow-up was not specified at the meeting.
