Middlebury boards approve sending $13,985,958 municipal budget to referendum

At a joint special meeting, Middlebury’s Board of Finance and Board of Selectmen voted to send the proposed $13,985,958 FY2026-27 municipal budget to referendum; CFO said the figure is a $511,884 (3.8%) increase over last year.
Both the Board of Finance and the Board of Selectmen voted on April 7 to send the proposed FY2026-27 municipal budget to referendum. Chairman Vincent Cipriano moved the BOF motion and Rita Smith seconded; the motion was approved. First Selectwoman Jennifer Mahr later moved the Board of Selectmen motion, which Selectman Brian Shaban seconded and approved.
CFO Seth Bernstein confirmed the adjusted General Fund budget total is $13,985,958, an increase of $511,884 over the prior year (3.8%). The question to be placed on the ballot read: "Shall the 2026-2027 Proposed Town Municipal Budget in the amount of $13,985,958 be sent to referendum?" The boards approved forwarding that question to voters.
