Commission reviews sheriff vehicle inventory; decides not to replace interceptor now

County Manager Thomas Weaver presented a vehicle inventory at the Dec. 23 work session and discussed fleet status for the sheriff’s office. The inventory listed multiple vehicles under review: a Tahoe, a 2021 Ford F‑150, a 2019 Ford F‑150, a 2018 Ford F‑150, a 2021 Dodge Charger, a 2019 Dodge Charger and three 2022 police interceptors. Weaver said the county currently has seven assigned positions in the sheriff’s office (five deputies, one vacant and the sheriff) and that vehicle assignments and turnover timing needed clarification.
Amanda Beaver, present at the meeting, clarified which vehicles were in service and which were pending replacement; the county manager said one interceptor replacement is tied to vehicle leases that will be returned in 2027. After discussion, commissioners agreed not to add a vehicle replacement request to the Jan. 7 agenda because they did not find a justifiable immediate need. Commissioners asked for a full vehicle report and a written response from the sheriff before reconsidering replacements.
