Student Council President Lewis Beckham told the board the council hosted an Oct. 18 leadership workshop attended by more than 300 students from area schools; he called the experience worthwhile and said "the dancing was the favorite part." Beckham also described the Fall Pep Assembly, the evening's "Pink Out" girls basketball fundraiser to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Spirit Week, and an upcoming Haunted House coordinated with the Rankin PFK Chili Supper.
Principal April McLaughlin reviewed school operations: parent-teacher conferences were held Oct. 23 and 24 with report cards distributed; Halloween activities on Oct. 31 include an 11:30 a.m. dismissal, a family day, a gym parade at 11:15 a.m. and guidelines for costumes; Primetime rewards and the Scholastic Book Fair were recapped; the district renamed after‑school tutoring "homework help," offered Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:15 p.m., and expressed thanks to school staff and volunteers.
