Transportation director urges leaving Meadowbrook bus stop in place after parent safety concern

Parent Stacy Tyler raised safety concerns about a bus stop in the Meadowbrook subdivision during public comments, asking the board to consider relocating it.
Transportation Director Coleen Jones presented a written report and told the board the department recommends keeping the stop where it is. Jones cited a lit waiting area, a gravel buffer and a bike lane that separate students from traffic, frequent sheriff speed patrols at the subdivision entrance, and the lack of safe space for a school bus to perform a correct U-turn without creating a hazard. "It is the recommendation of the transportation department to leave the bus stop as is," Jones wrote in the department memo to the board.
Jones also warned that moving the stop to either suggested alternate location would require buses to perform unsafe backup or U-turn maneuvers and that a second suggested site includes a blind curve with prior near-misses. The board said the concern raised by the parent would be addressed on a future agenda, but no motion to change the stop was made at the Dec. 16 meeting.
