Arlene Garcia, representing Sierra Vista Animal Care & Control, promoted an upcoming Friends of the Sierra Vista Animal Shelter rummage sale whose proceeds will fund low-cost spay-and-neuter programs and support animals at the shelter. She asked listeners to donate items and help with transport of aluminum cans to Tucson to raise funds; volunteers are also needed because the shelter no longer has Department of Corrections labor support.
Garcia said the shelter is shorthanded after staff departures and a deployment and that it is hiring two animal-control officers and a customer-service representative. "Starting Tuesday, the shelter is gonna open at noon," she said, explaining the adjusted hours will give staff more time for cleaning, feeding and medical tasks until new hires are trained. She provided contact details: phone (520) 458-4151, the shelter Facebook page and the shelter address at 6799 East Highway 90.
